Hey! I hope you’re enjoying my newly launched blog, “Kay’s Reporter Notebook,” so far! If you haven’t already taken an opportunity to check out the first two posts from the NABJ Region I Conference in Hampton, VA and the NABJ Webinar featuring compelling storytelling tips from KARE 11 reporter Boyd Huppert, here ya go:
Now to some exciting personal news: I am proud to share with you that I was one of 6 applicants selected to participate in this year’s NBC University Master Class at NBC News Worldwide Headquarters in New York City. The one-day program will take admitted applicants who are “innovative, energetic, and intensely curious” on a journey “from story concept to completion.”
The full day hands-on workshop (open to New York NABJ, AAJA, and NAHJ members) will feature tips for experienced journalists looking to “take their craft to the next level.” Now, you’re probably wondering — why am I sharing this update on my blog? Well, as I’ve shared in a thread on my twitter, I’m using this new passion blog project of mine to share the journalism advice and tips I learn along the way and I expect to walk away from this full-day workshop with new material to do just that.
At #NBCUniversity19 Master Class we’ll get a refresher on how to:
Successfully pitch ideas to news executives
Write and produce a script on deadline
Produce stories with impact
Crashing a story
I’m looking forward to attending the Master Class and learning how NBC produces for network news, cable, digital, streaming and local. Be sure to follow me on social media for live tweets, Instagram story posts, and more on April 30!
