NABJ '18 SALUTE TO EXCELLENCE AWARD
In 2018, Kay was awarded the 2018 Salute to Excellence award by the National Association of Black Journalists for her story on what the District of Columbia (DC) is doing to help minorities enter the legal marijuana industry.
NABJ Salute to Excellence National Media Awards recognizes journalism that best covered the black experience or addressed issues affecting the worldwide black community. The competition honors work from print, television, radio, online, photojournalism, and public relations. You can watch and read Kay’s award-winning story here.
STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD
In 2016, as the outgoing Vice President of the National Association of Black Journalists at USC (NABJUSC) student-run organization at the University of Southern California, Kay and her peers were awarded the NABJ Student Chapter of the Year Award by the National Association of Black Journalists.
As Vice President, her duties included event planning, member and guest speaker outreach, maintaining the website, publishing updates to social media, coordinating events with other student-run organizations on campus, representing at local NABJ events, and preparing incoming leaders to take the reigns and keep the organization running.
REGION 11 MARK OF EXCELLENCE AWARD
In 2016, Kay was awarded the 2015 Region 11 Mark of Excellence collegiate award from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) in the "Television In-Depth Reporting" category for a story she shot and edited on alcoholism at the University of Southern California.
Kay’s report was part of an in-depth series for her Advanced Television Reporting class taught by former ABC News correspondent Judy Muller.

JOHN NOEL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN BROADCAST REPORTING
In 2014, Kay was awarded the John Noel Award for Excellence in Broadcast Reporting by the New York Association of Black Journalists in memory of the late NBC 4 New York Emmy award-winning reporter and Vietnam veteran, John Noel.
She was also awarded a NY Daily News scholarship for her achievements and hard work.
